ABOUT
Vin-Test
ON A SCALE OF 0 TO 10, Vin-Test
ACCURATELY MEASURES A WINE IN 4 CRITICAL AREAS.
Vin-Test is the best thing
that's happened to wine lovers since the invention of the
cork.
LETS YOU SEE HOW A WINE WILL TASTE BEFORE YOU BUY.
Using simple bar charts and a scale of 0 to 10, VinTest scientifically
measures the characteristics of a bottle of wine in 4 areas
to give you a clear picture of how the wine will taste. The
four areas are: Sweetness, Acidity, Astringency, and Body.
TELLS YOU HOW SWEET IT IS.
If you are a dry wine lover, nothing turns you off like a
sip of a really sweet wine. And vice versa. Yet even people
who write the wine labels disagree about how sweet a wine
is. Why? Because sweetness is a matter of personal taste.
But Vin-Test accurately measures the amount of sugar in the
wine. This lets you, the consumer, tell at a glance whether
the wine is very dry, very sweet, or somewhere in the middle.
TELLS YOU HOW TART IT IS.
The natural acids in a wine determine how tart the wine will
be. Vin-Test measures acidity to let you see at a glance the
degree of tartness the wine will have. A rating of 0 means
the wine is very Soft and has no tartness. A rating of 10
means the wine is very Tart. Since a certain amount of tartness
is desirable in a wine, most wines fall somewhere in between.
Vin-Test simply makes it easy for you to determine the amount
of tartness you prefer.
ACCURATELY MEASURES PUCKER POWER.
The amount of pucker wine has is determined by its astringency,
the hardest of all the characteristics to measure. Wine experts
call pucker power 'tannin', and chemists refer to it as 'complex
polyphenols'. Obviously, the more tannin the wine has, the
more astringent it is and the more pucker it causes. Vin-Test
rates a wine's astringency level on a scale of Mellow to Pucker
with Mellow being 0 and Pucker being 10. For instance, if
a little bit of pucker goes a long way, you might choose a
mellow wine with a 2 or 3 rating. On the other hand, if you
enjoy a lot of pucker, you want a wine that measures a 7 or
8 on the Vin-Test astringency scale.
HELPS YOU PICK THE KIND OF BODY YOU PREFER.
Body refers to the "weight" or "feel"
of the wine in your mouth, and is determined mainly by the
sugar, tannin, and alcohol content of the wine. For instance,
a Chablis is a light bodied wine and a Cabernet Savignon generally
has a full body. You can usually "feel" the amount
of body in a wine just by holding it in your mouth. But with
Vin-Test you don't have to taste the wine to measure the body!
The Vin-Test chart ranks body from Light (0) to Full (10)
to give you a clear understanding of the wine's body weight.
IT TOOK 10 YEARS TO DEVELOP Vin-Test
The Vin-Test labeling system was developed by Dr. John P.
Juergens, a wine lover and university pharmacy professor,
after 10 years of study and consumer research.
LET Vin-Test HELP YOU SELECT THE RIGHT WINE.
The next time you buy a bottle of wine, look for the Vin-Test
label and let Vin-Test help you select the right wine for
your taste. Because Vin-Test lets you pick the right wine.
Every time!
Vin-Test makes no attempt to
assess the quality of wine, and should not be regarded as
an endorsement or recommendation for a particular wine, brand
or vintner. Vin-Test is solely a chemical measurement of a
wine's fundamental characteristics. It is the responsibility
of the individual buyer to judge quality.
